Endeavour is a domestic abuse charity in Bolton who run a wide range of services including front line community-based support, group work and counselling for those affected by domestic abuse. They also offer a pet fostering service to enable those with pets to flee an abusive household without surrendering or leaving their animals.
Our partnership with Endeavour began in 2012 when we ran our Stay Safe women’s course with a group of their service users. Since then, we have created a series of bespoke training courses to meet the needs of the women they support including:
- Healthy relationships
- Coping with anxiety
- Walk and talk
- Stay Safe workshops and courses
- Believe and Achieve personal empowerment programme
We have also run personal safety training for their staff team.
During lockdown, we created online programmes for women who had fled domestic abuse and needed support. Our weekly online sessions which explored mental health issues and relationships gave women the chance to speak to others, get support, connect and share.
Jill Caldwell, CEO (left in photo) said ‘in 30 years of involvement with community projects, I can say Freedom Personal Safety are the best in their area of work. Their bespoke training courses have developed as a genuine response to the needs of our service users. I can discuss with Julie a rising trend we are looking to support and she will incorporate this into the training as appropriate or a new course will develop. This was illustrated perfectly during lockdown when the training was delivered online. At a time when access to health support services had reduced, Freedom Personal Safety created the ‘Coping with anxiety’ course which was a lifeline to all who attended. I know this from the response of the women we work with and we see the ongoing benefits of the training on a daily basis. It is reassuring to know we work in partnership with a company we can completely trust, who share our ethos, have the right approach and are responsive and sensitive to the needs of the women we work with.’
Julie Tweedale, Training and Development Manager at Freedom Personal Safety added ‘working in partnership with Endeavour is means a lot to us – our values, priorities and ways of working align perfectly and we want the same outcome; for everyone to live safe, happy, fulfilled lives. Every course and programme we run with Endeavour service users is different because the women who come along bring their own experiences and issues and we provide a safe space to share, connect and learn together. The work Endeavour does to help people and their pets stay safe is extraordinary and I’m delighted that we can play a small part in making a difference.
